Nigeria bears the highest burden of sickle cell disease globally, with an estimated 150,000 children born annually with the condition. Many affected families continue to face severe barriers to healthcare due to poverty, weak health financing systems, limited awareness, and inadequate access to specialized care.
Through evidence-based interventions, strategic partnerships, research & advocacy, community outreaches, and humanitarian programs, SSHAI seeks to improve health outcomes while advancing universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Providing basic and essential healthcare service delivery, including linkages to tertiary healthcare centers for sickle cell patients, internally displaced persons, and underserved populations in all domains of health, to improve access to promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative care in line with achieving SDGs.
Research on the health status, disease burden, healthcare access, utilization, and financial burden to monitor financial risk protection in SCD & vulnerable communities while promoting better health policies that reduce out-of-pocket expenditure.
We also ensure quality service delivery through learning resource development programs, internal staff training programs, and building a reliable health information system.
Conducting awareness campaigns with licensed health professionals to improve access to quality SCD-related information, to reduce stigmatisation, to provide mental support to affected beneficiaries and to promote prevention of future cases by advocating for early genotype testing for vulnerable communities.
Community-based health interventions for underserved populations in various domains of the community system, using credible data to identify most urgent needs and guide evidence-based healthcare service delivery to maximize utilization of limited resources for these communities
We create accountable partnerships and collaborations in various sectors of health and development to ensure sustainable resource acquisition and technical support used to improve healthcare service delivery and strengthen community systems
